Installation Guide: How to install Ubuntu from USB

If you have decided to try the Ubuntu operating system,thats is an excellent idea. Ubuntu is one of most popular Linux distributions and easy-to-use,currently available online  and integrates with many applications for work (LibreOffice), surf the Internet (Firefox), chat and play multimedia files.

Suppose the computer on which you want to install Ubuntu does not have a functioning DVD player and then you don't know how to proceed? No problem. Get a USB flash drive with at least 2 GB and get ready to transfer all the installation files of the operating system on it. Below is a guide on how to install Ubuntu from USB that is waiting to be read and put into practice.

If you want to find out how to install Ubuntu from USB, you must first obtain the operating system image file to transfer on your USB stick. Connect to the Ubuntu website and click on the Download button. On the page which opens, select 32 bit or 64 bit from the drop-down menu of the Centre (based on the PC on which you install the OS), and click Start Download to start downloading the ISO file for the version of Ubuntu that you have chosen.

Once you have downloaded Ubuntu, you can go to download UNetbootin, a free application that allows you to transfer images ISO on USB sticks and make them available for installation (or running in live mode) operating systems. Now, therefore, connect to the Internet site of UNetbootin and click on the green Download to download the program on your PC.Once download is complete, open, double-click on the file you just downloaded (e.g. unetbootin-windows-584.exe) and click on the Yes button to access the main screen of UNetbootin.

In the window that opens, put the checkmark next to Disk image and click on the button [...] to select the ISO image of Ubuntu, and then select the folder(drive) on the USB stick on which you want to copy the installation files from the operating system drop-down menu and click OK to start creating your Ubuntu installation stick (Warning: all files previously stored on the drive will be deleted!).That's it! Now you are ready to install Ubuntu from USB.

How to install Ubuntu?

To install Ubuntu you'll need to insert the USB stick to your PC,on which you copied the operating system and restart the computer and wait until the computer restarts. At this point, it should start automatically Ubuntu. On next startup, start Windows normally but not Ubuntu.Otherwise you have to goto the BIOS of your computer and set the USB ports as primary boot drive.

Once loaded the Ubuntu desktop, select the entry English from the left sidebar and click Install Ubuntu. Next, if you have a fast Internet connection, put the check mark next to Download updates during Setup and install third-party software (so that during setup you downloaded the latest updates for Ubuntu and MP3 codecs for the OS), and click on the Next button.

--> Now comes a very important step: you have to choose whether to install Ubuntu alongside Windows (recommended) or replacing Windows with Ubuntu (formatting the PC). Put the checkmark next to the desired option and click the Install button to continue the installation of the operating system.

Now don't set indicate the time zone to be used (eg. Rome), click on the Next button, set the keyboard language (eg. English) and click Next again and then enter the username, password, and name of the computer you want to use it on Ubuntu. Another click on next and will start installing the operating system.

At the end of the procedure (it will take about 15-20 minutes), click Restart now to restart your computer, remove the USB stick of Ubuntu from your PC and each time you switch on the PC you will be asked if you want to boot Ubuntu or Windows.
